Why You Should Like Cats
Sage K.
Has the thought ever occurred to you that your dog might be too much work? But does your heart break just thinking of not having a friend there to keep you company? Maybe, you should get a cat if this is you. I know that you are thinking that cats are vicious animals, but when you look past the claws, they are smart loving easy animals that need a home just like any dog would.
The very first thoughts that you might be thinking about are cat’s claws. If you were really worried about them then you could get your cat declawed. It would be a painful process for the cat but it could benefit the both of you. Before declawing you cat, you should know what it is. Like us, cats have 3 knuckles on each finger. In declawing a cat, they completely cut of the first knuckle so that the nail won’t grow back. The cat must stay at the vet office until it completely heals. The bigger the cat, the longer it stays. But when your cat comes home, it will no longer have claws and can no longer scratch you or your furniture.
Declawing a cat is not essential in having a cat and neither is grooming your cat. Cats are very intelligent animals and can groom themselves. Sure if you get a longhaired cat your might have to groom it every once and a while. But cats tongues are different than our and when they lick themselves they pick up all of their loose, shedded hair that is stuck to them. Their tongue can also clean them so, unlike dogs, they don’t need baths. Really the only thing hygiene wise that they need is for their litter box to be cleaned ever so often. That might sound really gross to you, but let me tell you, it is a lot easier than cleaning up after your dog in the backyard.
A cat knowing what you are feeling is another thing that I love about them. If you are tired after a long day, they will come into bed and act like a warm blanket hugging your skin and giving you warmth. If you are sad, they can sense it and will come and start to purr to cheer you up. It is almost like they have a sixth sense to know what you are feeling so that they can make or keep you feeling warm inside. But also, something that people think is the most important, is cats know when they need to back off. If you are in a really bad mood and you don’t feel like talking to anyone, they understand that they need to back off.
The most depressing one of all of these reasons is that a bunch of cats need a home. There are so many cats that need love because the only thing they know is that at a certain time in their shelter, they get fed. In just one popular rescue shelter 34 cats need a home. They all have a horrible background of being abused or being left to die. With some of the cats there they don’t even know how old they are or what gender they are. Only 32.4% of homes own a cat. That is 88.3 million cats owned, but there are still more that need you. Be a hero for a cat and it will reward you.
Obviously, cats aren’t every ones animal. You might think that you are one of those people. But try to get at least one or two, and if I haven’t changed your mind they might. They are wonderful, loving, understanding, easy animals that need a home just like any other dog. Now hopefully I have made a point and you see that there are many reasons why everyone should like cats.
